Under the Nine Suns

Travel throughout the Vaustian Republic, and the many worlds is made more difficult since bergs and cays are separated by the Sea of Clouds. Travel between must be done by air.

To solve this problem, the people of the many worlds have developed a variety of
flying ships. In Vaustia early ships were zeppelin like, small craft held aloft by large gas bags. This technology was later replaced by skydrivers, a device created using helice-forging and alcaotech. Skydrivers are placed along the hulls of modern cloud cruisers, allowing them to fly.

The invention of skydrivers has made travel through the Sea of Clouds much safer and quicker, resulting in increased trade and travel.

Skimmers are ships that use skydrivers to fly, but carry too little fuel to complete a long journey within the sea of clouds. Skimmers are often used for transport within cities, or across a single berg or cay.

Ground travel is still common across the bergs of the Vaustia. Those who can afford it use either animals or alcons to pull carriages and carts while the poorest still walk. As skimmer technology becomes cheaper, more and more people opt to fly.
